factory direct opens second ottawa store
If there was ever a good sign that I should get this move underway… one of my favorite electronic outlet stores just opened its second Ottawa-area location in Nepean on Merivale. (The first store, opened just last year, is on Donald Street near St. Laurent Blvd.) Okay, maybe it’s not a true heavily sign like a burning bush, but it’s still good to know.
For years, Factory Direct has been my go-to guy when it comes to run of the mill stuff that I really don’t feel like paying top-dollar for. (Why should I pay $50 for a USB key when Factory Direct has the exact same one for $20? – or less!)
It was actually thanks to a guy I met when I worked at the World Markets for a short time back in 2006. I’d seen the ads on the back of the free dailies, but never bothered to visit the stores. But when my co-worker mentioned he subscribes to their weekly newsletter and on-line coupons, I had to go see for myself.
Sure, some of the stuff is refurbished, but most products are new and plain boxed – which allows them to sell for less.
Years ago, when the whole Ottawa moving plan was first born, I made the now infamous list of things that I would need in Capital City. Things I had become used to. Factory Direct made that list – and now it seems that no matter where I land in Ottawa, I’m covered.

Seems a lot like XS cargo, also on merivale… i’ll be checking it out for sure for needless toys i likely don’t need but will use for at least an hour or two!!! Or perhaps useful stuff too…
altho i have walked by there a bunch of times i really have never gone in (there is a dollarama next to the donald street one we hit alot for party stuff and beer finders.. aka glow sticks)
i am thinking i will actually have to go in one of these days
The store is quite addictive. One you start shopping there, it will be hard to stop. LOL. One of the reasons I’m glad it’s now in Ottawa!
